Default NFL suspends Brady 4 games; Pats lose picks!!

    cp from espn..

NEW YORK -- The NFL has suspended Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady without pay for the first four games of the season, fined the New England Patriots $1 million and taken away two draft picks as punishment for deflating footballs used in the AFC title game, the league said in a statement Monday.
The NFL also indefinitely suspended the two equipment staffers believed to have carried out the plan, including one who called himself "The Deflator."
Brady will miss the season's showcase kickoff game Sept. 10 against Pittsburgh, Week 2 at Buffalo, a home game against Jacksonville and a game at Dallas.

    • No sugarcoating it: The NFL crushed owner Robert Kraft, quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots for deflating footballs before the AFC Championship Game against the Colts, Mike Reiss writes.
    • Cimini: Brady penalty doesn't help Jets much

Tom Brady's four-game suspension helps the New York Jets, obviously, but not as much as you might think, Rich Cimini writes.

He will return the week the Patriots face the Colts in Indianapolis.
The Patriots will also lose a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round pick in 2017.
Brady's agent said he would appeal the suspension to commissioner Roger Goodell, which the quarterback has three days to do.
Brady would be replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo, a 2014 second-round selection from Eastern Illinois who won the Walter Payton award as the best player in the FCS. He has thrown 27 NFL passes, including one touchdown.
Brady's agent, Don Yee, said "the discipline is ridiculous and has no legitimate basis."
"And if the hearing officer is completely independent and neutral, I am very confident the Wells report will be exposed as an incredibly frail exercise in fact-finding and logic," Yee said in a statement.

Ted Wells' 243-page report on the "Deflategate" scandal concludes "it's more probable than not" that Patriots personnel "participated in a deliberate effort to release air from Patriots game balls after the balls were examined by the referee." Warning: Some language in the report might be objectionable to users. Wells report PDF
The Patriots did not immediately comment on the punishments.
The punishment was announced five days after the release of the lengthy Wells report that found that Patriots personnel deliberately deflated footballs before the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 18, 2015, and that Brady "was at least generally aware" of the violations.
"With respect to your particular involvement, the report established that there is substantial and credible evidence to conclude you were at least generally aware of the actions of the Patriots' employees involved in the deflation of the footballs and that it was unlikely that their actions were done without your knowledge," NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent wrote in a letter to Brady.
The 243-page report by league-appointed attorney Ted Wells said it was "more probable than not" that Brady was aware of plans to prepare the footballs to his liking, below the NFL-mandated minimum of 12.5 pounds per square inch.
The report identified two Patriots employees -- officials' locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski -- as the ones who executed the plan. The Patriots suspended both indefinitely last week. Neither can be reinstated without the approval of the NFL, the league said.
Reaction in the NFL was widespread in the aftermath of the news.
Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount tweeted his objections to the discipline, while San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Darnell Dockett used it as an opportunity to take a jab at New England.

    4 game suspension
    1 million dollar fine
    2 draft picks

Sounds excessive, especially when it's being reported that it's "more probable than not" (doesn sound like the report concluded with concrete, un disputable proof of wrong doing) for 1 Pound of air ,, of which had no impact on the game ,, Given Blount ran for 3 touchdowns ...

Stay tuned for the appeals ,,, the NFL has done this in the past , where they impose harsh fines to comfort the
    cry babies and then recant.

    LOL ...

we both know he knew, by the feel of the ball, that it was deflated ,,, there's no doubt
but you gotta know, that during the appeal the defense is going to demand proof !!
You know how it goes , "if the glove don't fit ,, you must acquit"

The only way any this moves forward, is if Brady hands over his phone ,, and give up the text exchanges,
which we both know will never happen

pretty bad that nowadays they can convict you without any proof.more probable than not means nothing.this is something you would expect from a dictator.

Having said that he knew the ball was deflated is an assumption based on logic ,,,
I can't believe that an NFL, professional football player, who was been handling footballs
for 33 of his 37 years on planet earth, did not realize they were softer than usual.

That does not mean that he deflated them or purposely had someone deflate them.

The other question is ,,, does it really make a difference on the grip, on a rainy day?
I mean, at 6'4" ,, and a palm span that circles the girth of the football,,, with his longivity and
football experience,, does he really need the advantage of a deflated ball?

And finally ,,, how does a deflated football perform at kickoff and during field goals?
it would make sense that during those times a football performs better inflated ,, an inflated
football gets propelled further than a saggy deflated one.

To conclude that Brady purposely had the balls deflated suggests that he put the game and his
    team at a dis-advantage ,,,

Given his fierce competitive personality ,,,, to belive he put himself the game and his teammates
at a disadvantage is "more improbable than not"

In my opinion this decision took way to long, and was far to lenient.
They have rules in sports for many reasons, safety, fairness and simplicity to name a few. To allow one team to skirt the playing rules would not be fair to the others.
Most quarterbacks stated it was easier to grip and throw a softer ball, and most receivers stated it was easier catching a softer ball.

For those who think the penalty was to harsh, most likely Patriot fans, keep a few things in mind.

Most cheaters never get caught the first time, this has most likely been going on for quite some time.
I firmly believe most if not the entire team and coaching staff was fully aware of this ball deflation. Certainly the quarterback, center, running backs, and receivers.
These are the Patriots, the most cheating team in football.

Also keep in mind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning lobbied the league to change the ball handling rules that gave teams a better opportunity to handle or manipulate their game balls.

Personally I think the cheaters should have forfeited the game to the Colts but that would have cost the NFL to much $$$$

I would give Brady and Belicheat one option, strap them up to a polygraph.
If it shows they knew nothing or it was the first time, they “man up” and take the mild penalty.
If it shows they have been cheating for years, as most know, Belicheat and Brady sit out the entire season, and both give up title to all records and achievements from the time the cheating began.

Exactly Steven.. 4 games is a joke..Specially when the outcome was winning a Super Bowl.. They should strip them of the title and give it to the Colts.. Hey wait a minute.. I don't like the Colts either...Lol..

my guess is that no one is gonna get anything ..... and here's why

Now that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has had a few days to mull over his four-game suspension for deflated footballs used in the AFC Championship game against the Colts, he seems set to fight the punishment.

Brady has until 5 p.m. EST Thursday to file an official appeal with the NFL. After that, Brady and his camp will likely argue the punishment is too harsh.

"I've always played within the rules and never done anything to break the rules," Brady said during a press conference in January.

To help with that appeal, Brady has reportedly hired lawyer Jeffrey Kessler -- a man who's largely described as the NFL's enemy.

Kessler is the same lawyer who's represented Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, along with a handful of other high profile athletes. Both Rice and Peterson won their cases in district court.
That, coupled with the fact Brady is essentially the NFL's posterchild and he's never been in much trouble with the league, is leading many to believe Brady's chances of getting a reduced sentence is extremely likely.

Gary Meyers of the New York Daily News lists three reasons why Brady will likely get off, including:

    - There is a history of appeals leading to a reduction in discipline.

    - Brady's penalty was harsh.

    - Kessler has an excellent track record against the NFL in these matters.

Conservative news website BreitBart takes it a step further, listing 10 reasons why Brady's suspension could be overturned.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says a league source of his agrees.

"The text here it says, 'Brady's legal team is unreal I guess.' ... They said 'Talented, big name lawyers. [Don] Yee, Kessler, etc. Prediction equals won't miss a game."

This, of course, isn't a sure thing for Brady. He would have to work through and win the appeals process.

Ted Wells, the investigator into the scandal, has vehemently defended his findings. In his report, Wells wrote Brady was "at least generally aware" Patriots staff deflated footballs. While that language sounds a bit loose, Wells isn't mincing words.

"If I were sitting on a jury and the judge had charged the jury that it should apply the preonderance of the evidence standard, I would have checked the box that said 'proven,'" Wells told reporters.

There's also the commissioner Roger Goodell factor. Goodell, in charge of handing down league suspensions, could be the one to hear this appeal and have final say on it.

"The most important thing here is 'was there a violation of the rules' and, if so, 'how did that occur," Goodell told Charlie Rose.

That, too, could be tricky as Patriots owner Robert Kraft is part of the league's compensation committee, tasked with ruling on the commissioner's salary among other things. They've been known to be pretty buddy-buddy in the past, though these recent events could change that.

Goodell has not yet announced if he or an arbitrator will hear the appeal or when a ruling could be expected.

Goodell could care less of the suspensions.................he`ll win his $1million to help pay the concussion settlements and his agenda here would be complete. The rest is pretty much a show to keep the league`s policies relevant and on going.
