Ariza signs 2-year contract with Mayweather

Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza has reportedly signed a 2-year contract with WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) that should in theory take Mayweather all the way to retirement. Ariza had helped Mayweather stretches during one of his workouts in getting ready for his rematch against Marcos Maidana.
Ariza continued to be around the Mayweather gym, making many boxing fans feel that it was just a matter of time before Mayweather eventually signed him up as his strength and conditioning coach.
“I signed an official contract for two years to serve as Floyd’s strength and conditioning coach,” Ariza said via the Manilastandardtoday.com.


Mayweather has 2 fights left on his 6-contract with Showtime/CBS, and it’s unclear if Mayweather choose to fight beyond the end of the contract. He’s run out of opponents to fight at this point, and about the only way he can continue to get big fights is if he decides to fight Manny Pacquiao. A fight between them would be huge and a rematch would be a big deal as well.
Ariza quoted Mayweather as saying “I think I need you now.”
Mayweather didn’t show any signs of fatigue in his recent win over Maidana, but of course we don’t know how Mayweather felt in between rounds and after the fight. He may have been more tired than he’d been in the past.
One area where Ariza could be especially beneficial to Mayweather is if he could help increase his punching power by focusing on strength training like he’d done with Pacquiao when he was at his best between 2008 and 2010.
With Ariza’s help, Pacquiao was knocking out most of his opponents and he looked a lot more powerful back then than he does now. Pacquiao went away from the strength training that he’d been doing earlier with Ariza because he felt he was slowing down. But strength training would be a great help for Mayweather because his lack of power was quite evident in his two fights against Maidana. If Mayweather had more power, he could have hurt Maidana with a lot of the shots that he was bouncing off of his head.

Mayweather won’t fight Pacquiao as long as Arum is involved, says Ariza

September 21st, 2014 |By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao may have undermined his own cause for a potential career high payday fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr when Pacquiao signed an extension with Top Rank earlier this year rather than letting his existing contract with the company expire at the end of the year.
New Mayweather employee Alex Ariza, one of the finest strength and conditioning coaches in boxing, says that he doesn’t see a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao happening as long as Bob Arum is still involved.


“As long as Bob Arum (Top Rank Promoter) is involved, the [Mayweather-Pacquiao] fight won’t happen,” said Ariza to the Manilastandardtoday.com. Ariza added that if they [Top Rank] “leave Manny alone” then a fight between him and Mayweather can take place.
The problem that Pacquiao has is that his extension wasn’t just for one year, it was for 2 years, and it doesn’t expire until January 31st, 2016. Mayweather will likely be retired from the sport by the time that Pacquiao’s contract is up with Top Rank. Even when it does expire, Pacquiao will very likely sign another contract with them.
From what Ariza is saying, Mayweather isn’t going to bother fighting Pacquiao for the remainder of his career because he’s not going to sit and wait on Pacquiao’s existing contract to run out because he doesn’t have enough time left in the sport to wait him out, and like I said, even if Mayweather could wait that long, Pacquiao would likely re-up for another 2 years or more.
In the past, Mayweather made it clear that he wasn’t going to fight Pacquiao as long as Arum was involved in the picture. Pacquiao apparently didn’t buy what Mayweather was saying, so he went and signed up again with Arum, and now he’s out of luck for his big money fight for a Mayweather fight.
The smart thing would have been for Pacquiao to have attempted to negotiate with Mayweather once his contract with Top Rank was up. Pacquiao could have then re-upped with Top Rank for the remainder of his career following the Mayweather fight.

. The only thing I find more bizarre than this is what will Floyd’s fans who have accused Ariza of providing Pacquiao with PEDs have to say now. That’s why it’s very important to be humble and patient when it comes to accusations. The very man that “they” implied made Pacquiao into a PED monster is the very man that “their” guy hired.

Well, maybe Ariza was the one who told PBF to make the accusation. He probably didn't think he would get fired. Now Floyd is compensating his info with a contract, doesn't mean he will do the same as Pac did. We do know that since Ariza was fired Pac, had a close encounter with Jesus, quit doing bad things , was KO by JMM and hasn't been able to KO anybody in the 147 division. Floyd with Ariza may built up strength without the use of illegal things and may KO somebody in the 147 or 154 division.

The latest is, going down in weight to try to KO the little guys. Floyd has the cash to hire anyone, so shouldn't be a surprise to anyone his hiring of Ariza. To me he should have hired Memo, he did a great job with JMM.
