    C/P (NFPS)

Here are 2 of my recommendations:
    1) DSM-remastered image – for more stability and best scanning ability
    2) PLi-jade3-max-var image – easier to use and has more features to offer – best used with a pre-made channel list imo.

Note: Don’t mixup images with .fw2 files. .fw2 files are backups of other dreambox 500 that are loaded using flashwiard and have many saved settings. Images are always .img files.

Use DreamUP 1.3.3.4 (only use this for clones and not a later or earlier version) from downloads and the following procedure to load images:
    C/P:
    1. Unplug the DreamBox from its power.
    2. Connect a Null Modem Cable between the PC and the DreamBox. A plain serial cable WILL NOT work!
    3. Start the Universal DreamUp program on your PC.
    4. Leave the Use Network box unchecked.
    5. Click Connect.
    6. When it says to switch on the dreambox please plug in the DreamBox.
    7. Eventually you will see “Box attached and ready”
    8. Click Flash Erase and select Yes.
    9. It will tell you when it is completed successfully.
    10. Click Flash and browse to the image of your choice, and select it.
    11. Answer Yes to the flash erasing during the process.
    12. The image will begin uploading to the DreamBox 500.
    13. It will tell you when the process is over.
    End of C/P

You can also a webloader by changing the name of the image file (this depends on the firmware that is already loaded) and saving it to /tmp folder from DCC, but dreamup 1.3.3.4 is recommended.

Alternatively you can use Flashwizard 6.3 and upload the image instead if you do not have a null modem cable. But Dreamup is recommended. Flashwizard can be buggy at times. Flashwiard can handle both .fw2 files as well as .img files. Just make sure you have the correct IP of dreambox in the configuration (check dreambox’s networking in setup menu for the IP) and then browse or drag the image to install.

After loading the image next it’s time to setup sats.

The dreambox is a weird creature in that it doesn’t have an lnb type but allows you to change every setting yourself manually.

If you are planning to scan, use the modded TP update for legacy or dishpro. If on the other hand, you are planning on loading the channel list using dreamboxedit, then use the list first and reboot before setting up sats. Use DP update/list for dishpro lnb and use legacy otherwise.
Here are the currently available channel lists:
    110-119 legacy
    110-119 DP
    110-118-119 legacy
    110-118-119 DP
    118-119 legacy
    118-119 DP

To load a channel list, open dreamboxedit (4.0.1.2). Select Tools – Options. In profiles tab, input your dreambox IP, press ‘satelite receiver’ button to switch from enigma2 to enigma1 and hit save. Open the channel list and then click on the FTP button and click on send files to dreambox. Make sure to do a hard reboot of your dreambox after that.

After using one of the above, here is a brief general idea on how to setup sats, including what works best:

For best results I recommend selecting user-defined configuration (not available in dsm, in which you can just choose the right option you need).

First choose the primary sat that you wish to define settings for (this should usually be your lnb on port 1 diseqc). The lnb# defines absolutely nothing. It is just a numbering. But for best results, use the same lnb # for BOTH 118 and 119 sats if you are using 1 lnb that gets both sats. If you are using 2 different lnbs for those sats then use 2 different lnb #s. After choosing the lnb# (use 0 for the 1st sat and so on) a new pop-up appears that asks for even more settings.
lof/l should be default 09750 for a dual port lnb, but is best set the same as lof/h for the single port lnb.
Threshold is best left default 11700.
For lnb/h (same for v and h in dsm), use the usual lnb frequency that you assign in other receivers.
It is usually 11250 for a standard and 10750 for a 118 or 118/119 dual lnb.

After using those settings, go to the next page.
If you are using a diseqc swtich 4×1 – use diseqc mode 1.0, for more, use 1.1 and finally for motor, use 1.2
As for diseqc ports the alphbets are the ones that define the lnb port from disqec.
    AA implies port 1.
    AB implies port 2.
    BA implies port 3.
    BB implies port 4.
If you are not using a diseqc just change diseqc to none.

After doing all the settings do not forget to hit SAVE!

You can then add more sats and define them as well one by one.

After defining the sats, it is now time to install rqcamd. Download the modded rqcamd 1.31 packages for ppc.

Open DreamBox Control Center (dcc 2.96) in your PC and select the language as English, if that is not default. Make sure Dreambox has the correct IP. If you are using a router or switch select that and also plugin their IP. Click reconnect.
Now you are connected to the DreamBox.
This setup was modified from a guide posted by fta_dude. Unzip the files to a folder, it will have 5 files inside for different boxes and different images, one you’d need would depend on your image (Note – this guide is made for the PLi and DSM, but it should be similar for Gemini and Nitro):
    With GEMINI installed, use: rqcamd-1.31-GEMINI-PPC.tar.gz
    With PLi installed, use: rqcamd-1.31-PLi-PPC.tar.gz
    With DSM installed, use: rqcamd-1.31-DSM-PPC.tar.gz
    With NITRO installed, use: rqcamd-1.31-NITRO-PPC.tar.gz

    1. Fire up the DCC software. Reconnect the software to Dreambox. Go to FTP.
Locate the rqcamd-1.31-***-PPC.tar.gz file in the computer side in FTP client. Transfer the tar file into /tmp folder of the dreambox.
    2. Once you have transferred the file, Press Blue button on the remote.
    a. Select Software Management
    b. Goto Manual Install – Select rqcamd-1.31-***-PPC.tar.gz and press OK. It will install RQCAMD on the Dreambox as well as integrate it with image so you don’t have to manually do it. Once finished installing, Press Red Button to close. Exit all the way and do a hard reboot.
Note: The above is for PLi. For DSM it is at dreambox menu >setup > my panel > manual install addons (info thanks to flyfisher1).

Uploaded a pre-set config so you can skip steps below and use that rqcamd.conf instead. Download and extract the rqcamd packages and the modded files to a folder and locate the modded rqcamd.conf and Keylist.txt them on the right side in DCC. Now right-click rqcamd.conf and click on Edit.
Now follow JUST step ‘d’ below for line 152.

    3. Extract the tar file to a folder on your PC as well. Now find the folder where you extracted the rqcamd-1.31-***-PPC.tar.gz and go to the keys folder. Use DCC (right-click and edit on the right side). You would need to update the following fields per your setup:
    a. webif=1 <- Change this to 0 or leave it if you need webif
Make the rest of the changes under provider DN:
    b. caid_priorities=1801|1816 <- Change this to 1816|1801
    c. decoder_type=0 <- Change this to 1 to use the card server instead of internal softcam.
    d. card_server_url_0= <-
You will see similar to “card_server_url_0=newcamd://ACCESSCODE:ACCESSCODE@ServerName:Port/6103403445406970987123412134/EMM”
or “card_server_url_0=newcamd://username[email protected]:10550/0102030405060708091011121314/EMM” if you are not using the modded files.
    Basically it should be: “card_server_url_0=newcamd://Username:Password@ServerName:Port/DESKEY/EMM”
Edit this to reflect your access to server.
    e. process_emm_s=0 <-Change this to 1 to pass the EMM S to RQCS.
    f. process_emm_u=0 <-Change this to 1 to pass the EMM S to RQCS.

Steps below are now to be performed when using the pre-set rqcamd.conf and Keylist.txt as well.

    g. Save the rqcamd.conf file.

Do step ‘h’ ONLY if you are not using the modded files.
    h. Create an empty file called Keylist.txt and save it in same place as rqcamd.conf (Rqcamd supposedly creates it by itself but I’d do it anyway)

    4. First locate rqcamd.conf at /var/keys on the left side in DCC and delete it. Now on DCC, locate the rqcamd.conf and Keylist.txt (in the modded files folder) in the Computer Side (right) and transfer both files to /var/keys folder in the left.

    5. Pretty much all the files come with proper permissions, but if you like to make sure all the files have right permission then follow these steps exactly:
    1. Go to Telnet in the DCC.
    2. Type each line and press Enter.
    chmod 755 /var/bin/rqcamd
    chmod 644 /var/keys/rqcamd.conf
    chmod 644 /var/keys/Autoupdate.Key
    chmod 644 /var/scce/EEP01_102.bin
    chmod 644 /var/scce/EEP08_102.bin
    chmod 644 /var/scce/ROM102.bin

    6. Press blue button and go to SoftCam Setup (Mycam in DSM).
    a. Select Rqcamd-1.31 in the Default SoftCam dropdown menu.
    b. Press Blue Button to Save.
    c. Exit all the way and Reboot the box.
    6. Once the box reboots, you will see an External Message saying rqcamd-1.31 has started. The message will disappear in few seconds and by this time you should get picture if everything went correctly. If tv is not up, check your rqcamd.conf again at DCC

    It looks very complete.

    Just a little note.......

Be sure of what kind of Dreambox you own, Original or Clone.

I´m telling you that because sometimes people takes images from anywhere and if your box is a clone NEVER INSTALL on it a GEMINI image.

The reazon of that is becasue they contain a kind of BOMB against clones.

    PLI, DSM will be fine.

    Regards.

    1. How do you find out the receiver is a clone or original?
    2. Also the instructions were posted couple of years ago, can someone recommend a newer image which is more stable?

    Thanks

samaark. becomes confusing if you are asking same question in more than one thread. . http://www.satfix.net/showthread.php...p-of-my-DM500S Stick with this one and "bump" occasionally if no one is answering. good luck
