Hi guys,

My SV 8000 HD USB seems not to be able to work with External hard drives with USB 3 ?!
My SV works fine with the external hard drives with USB 2s...but almost all of the new external hard drives come with USB3s?
I was wondering if anyone else have this problem...where their sv 8000 hd can't recognize and work with USB3?
It almost looks like the other end of the cable that goes into the USB of the SV, can't completely go in..?!!!! BUT, same USB 3 works fine with my laptop ?!!
weird..?

any feedback appreciated :)

Thanks

What size drives are you trying to connect? Is it an external powered USB or self powered?
USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible with 2.0 so therefore the plugs should be identical.
It may not be as simple as not recognizing the USB 3.0. SV8000's are temperamental with ANY drives over say 500GB in size and it may just be a compatibility issue with the drives size.

Drive size is not a problem as long as its under 2T and formatted to Fat32. The limit for Fat32 format is 2T.
I'm running a Seagate 2T drive (Fat32) on one of my SV8000 with no issues..
Format the drive to Fat32. I'v had success with Seagate drives.. take them out of the box new and plug them into the SV8000,
and go to menue/usb and format the drive using the SV8000. Every time I tried a WD (Western Digital) drive it the SV800 wouldn't recognize it and I had to use the computer to try to format the drive to Fat32 which is a pain cause you need to find software that will do it... even after that I had issues with the WD drives... Like "United" said, its likely not the usb 3.0, as its back ward compatible, its likely other factors as I mentioned here..

Make sure you let the drive power up on it's own (let drive internal boot) then connect it to the SV8K.

I have an external 1T USB drive working fine but I want to use a 32G flash drive for use between 2 SV8000s. Unfortunately neither a USB 2.0 nor a 3.0 stick will work. Is there a specific brand which will work?
