I just got Txshiba 500 GB Canvio. It is supposed to be powered by the device, SV8K is not included.

The last HD I've had to get were the Simpletechs. They are finally dying from overuse after many years. I could use the 1TB just fine.

Now I don't mind getting a couple of 320GB or 500GB, but I don't know what brand to get. I don't like Wxstern Digital. If you know some compatible HD from Castco, or Best Bxy, let me know.

Thanks.

X2 Seagate all the way! The SV8000 will reconginize them right away and you can format it with the SV8000 easily..
The Western Digital drives I'v had no luck formating with with SV8000 it wont see the new drive and need to format them on your computer first which can be a pain to format to fat32...

Simpletech or Lacie 1tb or less is my recommendation. Make sure they are externally powered not powered by the USB.

I've looked into those brands and it looks like there is nothing smaller than 2TB. I don't even know if anything over 1TB works with the SV8K. I have a 2TB Seagate with many files that I don't want to hook up, because I know there is a small chance they will all get corrupted.

Do any of you work with a 2TB or 3TB Seagate?

I have a 2T Seagate drive formated to fat32 on my SV8000. 2T is the limit... you need to format the drive to fat32, and the limit for fat32 format is 2T.
You should be able to partition your 3T drive to a 2T sector and format that sector to fat32 so the SV8000 can see that fat32 2T partition.
