Well there are a few possible problems with adding cable TV channels.

1. They have to be in ATSC format, CATV some times uses the old analog TV signals, or QAM type digital TV channels, your on board TV signal tuner needs to be able to handle both, most modern TV sets can do the QAM, I don't think the FTA receivers can.

2. The cable TV channels above TV channel 13 are on a different band plan then the off air TV channels, so your FTA receivers on board TV tuner needs to be able to switch to CATV mode, most modern TV sets can do this, most FTA receivers can't.

Most FTA tuners are for ATSC off air HDTV channels, an external TV antenna, or a set top TV antenna should work if your within range of the TV transmitters.
